X RAY RIGHT FOOT AP AND LATERAL STANDING VIEW

A foot AP/lateral X‑ray is a basic radiograph with two views—anteroposterior (AP) and lateral—used to visualize bones, joints and soft-tissue outlines of the foot. It helps detect fractures, dislocations, arthritis, deformities or foreign bodies and assesses bone alignment. The exam is quick, noninvasive and uses low-dose ionizing radiation; pregnancy and metal artifacts should be reported beforehand.

A standing AP and lateral view are weight‑bearing X‑ray images taken with the patient upright. The AP (anteroposterior) view images the body front-to-back, showing coronal alignment and joint spacing. The lateral view images the side, showing sagittal profile and bone relationships. Together they assess joint space, alignment, deformity, fractures, arthritis and functional load-bearing that non‑weightbearing films can miss.

A lateral foot X‑ray is a side‑view radiograph taken with the foot positioned on its lateral aspect so the X‑ray beam is directed across the foot. It produces a sagittal‑profile image of hindfoot, midfoot and forefoot—showing the calcaneus, talus, navicular, cuboid and metatarsals. It’s used to detect fractures, dislocations, alignment problems, degenerative changes and to assess pre/postoperative anatomy.

An AP lateral refers to obtaining both an anteroposterior (AP) and a lateral radiographic view. The AP image projects X‑rays front-to-back, while the lateral captures a side profile. Together they provide two perpendicular planes that improve detection and localization of fractures, lung or spinal pathology, air‑fluid levels, and foreign bodies, aiding diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning.

AP in X-ray stands for anteroposterior. It denotes a projection where the X-ray beam enters the anterior (front) of the body and exits the posterior (back). AP views are used when a patient cannot stand or be positioned for a PA view; they can alter magnification and the apparent relationships of structures, so radiologists interpret AP films with positioning factors in mind.

The lateral foot is the outer side of the foot, the border running from the heel to the little toe (fifth toe). It includes structures such as the cuboid, fifth metatarsal, lateral ankle (lateral malleolus), and associated tendons and ligaments. Clinically it's assessed for injuries, fractures, tendon strains, and localized pain distinct from the medial (inner) side.
