X RAY PELVIS WITH BOTH HIP RIGHT LATERAL FLEXION VIEW

An X‑ray pelvis with both hip PA view is a radiographic exam imaging the pelvis plus each hip using a posteroanterior (PA) projection. It shows pelvic bones, hip joints, femoral heads/necks and acetabula to detect fractures, dislocations, arthritis, bone lesions, or assess pre/postoperative status. The patient lies supine or standing while the beam passes posterior-to-anterior for accurate alignment and side-to-side comparison.

The standard hip and pelvis X‑ray is taken with the patient supine. For an AP pelvis/hip the legs are extended and toes turned inward about 15°–20° to internally rotate the femora, centering the beam midline at the level of the femoral heads/greater trochanters. A lateral hip (frog‑leg) view may be obtained with the hip flexed, abducted and externally rotated.

A lateral view of the hip bone is an imaging or anatomical perspective taken from the outer side of the pelvis, showing the external aspect of the os coxae and hip joint. It displays the femoral head and neck, acetabulum, greater trochanter, and adjacent pelvic landmarks. This view helps assess fractures, joint space, dislocations, bony alignment, and degenerative changes.

A dedicated lateral pelvis X‑ray is not routinely performed because overlapping bony structures limit its diagnostic value. Standard imaging is an AP (anteroposterior) pelvis; additional projections—pelvic inlet and outlet and Judet (oblique) views—are used for specific injury patterns. For hip evaluation, frog‑leg or cross‑table lateral views are obtained, and CT is preferred for complex pelvic fractures.

Pelvic X‑ray costs vary widely: under public health systems it’s often free to patients; in private UK clinics it’s about £50–£200. In the US out‑of‑pocket or uninsured charges commonly range $100–$1,000 depending on facility and added views. In India typical diagnostic‑center prices run roughly ₹200–₹1,500. Insurance and facility type strongly affect final cost.

Pelvic X‑rays can sometimes show bone lesions, large masses, or calcifications, but they are poor at detecting most pelvic soft‑tissue tumors or early cancers. A normal X‑ray does not rule out a tumor. If a tumor is suspected, ultrasound, CT, MRI or PET and a tissue biopsy are usually needed for accurate detection, characterization and diagnosis.
