X RAY PELVIS WITH BOTH HIP AP VIEW

A hip and pelvis X-ray shows the bones of the hips, pelvis and proximal femurs, revealing fractures, dislocations, joint-space narrowing and osteoarthritis, bone lesions or tumors, bone infections, congenital abnormalities, and degenerative changes. It can assess prosthesis position after hip replacement and detect calcifications or arthritis-related bone spurs, guiding further imaging or treatment decisions.

An X‑ray pelvis with both hip PA view is a radiographic exam that images the pelvis and both hip joints using a posteroanterior projection. It shows pelvic bones, femoral heads and necks, acetabula, and joint spaces to detect fractures, dislocations, arthritis, infection, or developmental problems. The patient is positioned so the X‑ray beam passes from back to front; the test is quick, noninvasive, and low‑dose.

Pelvic X‑ray costs vary widely by country and provider. In the United States typical charges run about $100–$1,000 (low‑cost clinics $100–$300; hospital/ER visits higher). An AP pelvis X‑ray is a frontal radiograph of the pelvis taken with the X‑ray beam passing from front to back. It images the pelvic bones, hip joints and proximal femora to assess fractures, dislocations, arthritis, infections, congenital anomalies and implant position. Typically performed supine with slight internal rotation of the legs, it uses low levels of ionizing radiation.

Doctors order a pelvic X‑ray to evaluate bone and joint problems in the pelvis and hips: to detect fractures or dislocations after trauma, assess hip pain or suspected osteoarthritis, check for infection or bone lesions, and identify tumors or abnormal calcifications. It helps plan or follow surgical treatment, monitor fracture healing, and guide further imaging if abnormalities are found.

You can often wear loose, metal‑free clothing for a hip X‑ray, but garments with zippers, buttons, belts or metal fastenings will usually need to be removed. Radiographers may ask you to change into a hospital gown to avoid artefacts. Remove hip or groin jewelry and tell staff if you might be pregnant. Follow the radiographer’s instructions for positioning and breathing.
