X RAY PELVIS AP AND LATERAL VIEW

AP (anteroposterior) view: X‑ray beam passes from the front of the body to the back, with the detector behind the patient; commonly used when upright positioning or portability is limited. Lateral view: beam passes from one side to the other, producing a side profile that reveals depth and spatial relationships between structures, helping detect displacement, overlap, and abnormalities not seen on AP images.

A pelvis AP (anteroposterior) X‑ray is a frontal radiograph of the pelvis and hips taken with the patient lying or standing. It evaluates bones for fractures, dislocations, arthritis, infection, and congenital abnormalities. Minimal preparation is needed—remove metal and confirm pregnancy status. The scan is quick, painless and uses low‑dose radiation; CT or MRI may follow for complex cases.

A true lateral pelvis radiograph is uncommon. Routine pelvis imaging uses an anteroposterior (AP) view; additional focused lateral views target hips (frog‑leg or cross‑table lateral) or trauma-specific inlet/outlet and Judet projections for acetabular/pelvic‑ring assessment. A lateral may be used in select cases, but overlapping anatomy limits its diagnostic value compared with targeted oblique or cross‑table lateral projections.

A two‑view pelvis X‑ray is two radiographic images taken from different angles—usually an anteroposterior (AP) frontal view plus a second oblique, inlet or outlet view. Together they improve visualization of pelvic bones, sacroiliac joints and hip sockets, helping detect fractures, dislocations, bone disease or alignment problems. It's quick, noninvasive, and commonly used in trauma or hip pain assessment.
