X Ray Left Leg AP & Lateral view

AP (anteroposterior) view is an X-ray taken with the beam passing from front to back; the patient faces the X-ray tube or lies supine, producing a frontal image used when upright positioning isn’t possible. Lateral view is a side-on image with the beam passing from one side to the other, showing depth and separating overlapping structures. Together they localize lesions, fractures, and assess chest or spine anatomy.

The lateral leg X‑ray is obtained with the patient lying on the affected side (or standing with the limb sideways) so the leg is true lateral. The knee is flexed about 45°, femoral condyles are superimposed, and the central ray is directed perpendicular to the mid‑shaft of the tibia/fibula. The image should include both knee and ankle joints and be collimated to the full leg length.

An AP and lateral knee X‑ray typically costs: in India about ₹200–₹800 at diagnostic centers; in the UK it’s usually free through the NHS but private clinics charge roughly £50–£120; in the United States self‑pay prices commonly range from $100–$500 depending on facility and location. Prices vary by city, imaging center, and whether insurance covers the exam.

A PA (posteroanterior) X-ray is a standard chest view where X-rays pass from back to front with the patient standing, minimizing heart magnification and improving lung detail. A lateral X-ray is a side view (often left lateral) that shows depth and relationships of chest structures, helps localize lesions, assess pleural effusions, and provides complementary information to the PA view.

AP (anteroposterior) and lateral are two radiographic views—each counts as one view. AP is taken front-to-back, lateral side-to-side; together they provide orthogonal perspectives that help localize lesions, assess structures in depth, and improve diagnostic accuracy. Lateral X‑ray denotes a side view, not inherently left or right. It becomes left or right depending on which side of the patient is placed against the image receptor. A left lateral means the patient’s left side is closest to the detector (often used for chest films to reduce cardiac magnification). Radiopaque L/R markers on the image identify the side.
