X Ray Left Heel AP View and Lateral View

AP (anteroposterior) view: X‑ray beam passes from front to back; patient faces the film or detector, which can magnify structures. It shows overall bone alignment, fractures and mediastinal contours. Lateral view: beam passes side‑to‑side with the patient turned 90°; it provides depth, helps localize lesions, and assesses vertebral alignment and joint spaces. Both views together improve diagnosis.

A both-heel lateral view X-ray is a side radiographic projection imaging both calcanei for direct comparison. Each heel is photographed in profile to assess fractures, bone alignment, the subtalar joint, calcaneal shape, and nearby soft-tissue changes (e.g., tendon calcification). It’s commonly performed after trauma or for persistent heel pain to help diagnose fractures, arthritis, infection, or structural abnormalities.

An ankle AP and lateral X-ray are standard radiographs taken front-to-back (anteroposterior) and from the side to evaluate the bones and joint alignment of the ankle. They identify fractures, dislocations, arthritis, joint space narrowing and foreign bodies, and guide treatment or follow-up. Preparation is minimal—remove footwear and jewelry; the exam uses low-dose ionizing radiation.

To obtain a lateral X‑ray, position the patient standing, seated, or lying with the side of interest against the image receptor; align the midcoronal plane perpendicular to the detector and center the central ray at the anatomical level (e.g., T7 for chest). Elevate arms above the head to clear the field, ensure shoulders are superimposed, use collimation and shielding, instruct a breath hold if needed, and place side markers.

AP and lateral refer to two radiographic views: AP (anteroposterior) — X‑ray beam passes front‑to‑back — and lateral — side‑to‑side.
