X Ray Both Leg Lateral view

The lateral leg X‑ray is taken with the patient in a true lateral position: lie on the affected side (or stand with the side against the detector), knee flexed about 45°, ankle neutral so tibia and fibula are in profile. Center the beam perpendicular to the mid‑shaft, include knee and ankle joints, and collimate to the length of the tibia/fibula for full visualization.

Lateral view in X-ray is a side-to-side projection where the X-ray beam passes from one lateral side of the body to the other, producing a profile image. It separates anterior and posterior structures to better show depth, alignment, or displacement of bones and organs. Commonly used for chest, spine, skull and extremity imaging; the patient stands or lies with the side of interest against the detector.

A "both ankle lateral X‑ray" is a side‑view radiograph taken of both ankles for direct comparison. It shows the tibia, fibula, talus and calcaneus to evaluate fractures, dislocations, joint space, arthritis and soft‑tissue swelling. Performed standing or lying with the foot turned sideways, it’s quick, noninvasive and uses low‑dose radiation to help diagnose and guide treatment.

A lateral foot x‑ray is a side‑view radiograph of the foot that shows bones, joints and nearby soft tissues. It helps detect fractures, dislocations, alignment problems, arthritis changes and foreign bodies. The patient stands or lies with the foot positioned on its side; weight‑bearing views may be taken to assess alignment. The test is quick, widely available and uses low ionizing radiation.

The lateral leg is the outer side of the lower leg, extending from just below the knee to the ankle along the fibula. It contains the fibularis (peroneus) longus and brevis muscles, which evert and plantarflex the foot, and is supplied by the superficial fibular (peroneal) nerve and branches of the fibular artery. It lies between the anterior and posterior compartments.

A lateral X-ray is a side view, not inherently left or right. It can be either a left lateral or right lateral projection depending on which side is placed against the image receptor and the beam direction. Radiographers mark images with L or R (and the report will state which), so always check the radiographic marker or report to determine left versus right.
