X Ray Both Leg AP & view

AP (anteroposterior) and PA (posteroanterior) are chest X-ray projections indicating beam direction through the body. In PA, the beam travels from back to front with the patient standing, reducing heart magnification and improving lung detail; it’s the standard erect view. AP travels front-to-back, used for supine or portable exams, and can enlarge the cardiac silhouette and lower image quality.

AP view (anteroposterior) means the X‑ray beam passes from the front (anterior) to the back (posterior) of the body. It's commonly used for patients who cannot stand (supine or portable chest X‑rays). AP projection can magnify the heart and mediastinum versus standard PA views, so apparent cardiomegaly or mediastinal widening should be interpreted cautiously with clinical correlation.

An AP and lateral knee X‑ray price varies widely by country and facility: in the UK it’s free for NHS patients; in India typical retail rates are roughly ₹150–₹800; in the US outpatient radiology centers usually charge about $50–$400, hospitals often more. Final cost depends on location, facility type, and whether insurance or public health coverage applies; reporting or extra views may add fees.

PA chest radiographs are preferred because the patient faces the detector so the heart lies closer to the film, reducing magnification and distortion and giving a more accurate cardiac size. PA is usually performed upright with better lung inflation and clearer diaphragms and air‑fluid levels. AP projections (often portable/supine) produce magnified heart silhouettes and poorer inspiratory effort, lowering diagnostic accuracy.

Prepare the patient: remove metal, explain the procedure and check for pregnancy. Position the limb for required views—usually AP and lateral—centering the X‑ray beam on the area of interest and including joints above and below a suspected fracture. Immobilize and ask the patient to stay still. Use lead shielding when appropriate. Radiographer sets exposure, reviews images, and repeats if coverage or quality is inadequate.
