Ultrasound Pelvis (TAS) 3D

A 3D pelvic scan is an imaging test that creates three-dimensional views of pelvic organs—uterus, ovaries, bladder, prostate and surrounding tissues—using specialized ultrasound or MRI. It provides detailed structural information to detect fibroids, cysts, polyps, congenital anomalies, tumors or signs of endometriosis, and aids fertility assessment and surgical planning. It’s generally noninvasive; preparation may include a full bladder or contrast for MRI.

A pelvic TAS (transabdominal scan) is an ultrasound of the pelvis performed through the lower abdomen to image the uterus, ovaries, bladder and pregnancy. It uses sound waves and involves no radiation; it is quick, non‑invasive and generally painless. A full bladder is usually required to improve visibility. It's commonly used to detect pregnancy, cysts, fibroids, masses or fluid and to guide further testing.

A pelvic TA (transabdominal) ultrasound is a non-invasive scan using an ultrasound probe over the lower abdomen to image pelvic organs such as the uterus, ovaries and bladder. Performed with a full bladder for better windows, it assesses pregnancy, pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, masses or fluid. It is safe with no radiation and is often combined with transvaginal ultrasound for greater detail when needed.

Transabdominal scan (TAS) is a type of pelvic ultrasound but not identical to transvaginal ultrasound. TAS uses a probe on the lower abdomen with a full bladder to image the uterus, ovaries and bladder; it gives a wider view but lower resolution for small structures. Transvaginal ultrasound inserts a probe into the vagina for higher-detail views. Choice depends on clinical needs and patient comfort.

3D scans can show external sex anatomy (for example, fetal genitalia or adult external features) and often determine biological sex reliably after about 18–20 weeks in pregnancy, though fetal position and equipment affect accuracy. They cannot determine a person’s gender identity, which is social and psychological. Definitive biological sex in complex cases (intersex, mosaicism) requires genetic testing or specialist evaluation.

A pelvic scan is usually not painful. A transabdominal ultrasound may cause mild pressure or discomfort from a full bladder and the probe; a transvaginal ultrasound can feel uncomfortable or cause brief cramping but should not be severely painful. CT or MRI of the pelvis are generally painless, though contrast injections may sting and lying still can be uncomfortable. Tell staff if you have significant pain.
