Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-A)

TNF-alpha (tumor necrosis factor alpha) is a potent pro‑inflammatory cytokine mainly produced by macrophages and T cells. It drives the acute‑phase immune response—causing fever, inflammation, apoptosis and leukocyte recruitment—to help fight infection. Excess or dysregulated TNF‑alpha contributes to chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s) and sepsis; it’s a target for anti‑TNF biologic therapies.

Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF) inhibitors are biologic drugs that block TNF‑α, a key pro‑inflammatory cytokine.
