What is a Neot Test ?
The Neot test measures neopterin, a molecule released by immune cells when they are activated. Higher neopterin levels indicate that the immune system is responding to a problem. That can happen with viral infections, some bacterial infections, autoimmune diseases, certain cancers, or organ transplant rejection. Doctors use the test to help detect immune activation and to monitor how active a disease is over time. It is not specific to one illness. Clinicians interpret the result together with symptoms, other lab tests, and imaging. Repeated measurements can show whether treatment is working or a condition is getting worse or better.
