MRI Scan Neck Contrast

Contrast-enhanced neck MRI is not always required; many scans are diagnostic without it. Gadolinium is used when better tissue characterization is needed—suspected tumors, infection, inflammation, vascular lesions, or to assess post‑treatment changes. The radiologist decides based on the clinical question and prior imaging. Contrast is generally safe but avoided or used cautiously with severe kidney disease or during pregnancy.

The actual imaging is often 20–45 minutes, while IV placement, contrast injection and brief pre/post-scan checks add roughly 10–20 minutes.
