Yes, MRI is very effective at detecting many neck (cervical) problems: herniated discs, spinal cord and nerve compression, degenerative disc disease, tumors, infection, inflammation and soft‑tissue injury. It is less sensitive for acute bone fractures or fine bony detail (CT or X‑ray are better). MRI results must be correlated with symptoms, and some metal implants can prevent scanning.

Modern fixation devices and dental implants—usually titanium—are non‑ferromagnetic and MRI‑compatible, though they may cause image artifacts. Older stainless‑steel hardware can be problematic. Always tell the radiology team about prior jaw surgery, bring implant documentation or operative notes, and follow their guidance; they may adjust technique or choose alternatives.
