MRI SCAN BRAIN, CP ANGLE WITH CONTRAST

A brain CP angle contrast MRI is an imaging scan of the cerebellopontine angle—the space between the cerebellum and pons—performed after intravenous gadolinium. It enhances and detects masses (e.g., vestibular schwannoma, meningioma), cysts or inflammation, shows cranial nerve involvement, and defines lesion size, location and relation to the brainstem and internal auditory canal to guide diagnosis and treatment planning.

A brain MRI with contrast highlights areas where the blood–brain barrier is disrupted, improving detection and characterization of tumors, metastases, abscesses, active inflammation (e.g., demyelinating lesions), infections, and vascular abnormalities (aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations). Contrast enhancement helps define lesion size, location, borders, vascularity, and active versus chronic disease, guiding diagnosis, staging, treatment planning, and follow-up.

The CP angle (cerebellopontine angle) is a triangular space between the cerebellum and pons at the lateral brainstem. It contains cranial nerves VII and VIII and nearby vessels. It’s a common site for tumors like vestibular schwannomas and meningiomas, which can cause hearing loss, tinnitus, facial numbness or weakness, and imbalance. It’s usually safe, but clinicians check kidney function and allergy history before giving contrast.
