Yes — you can usually sleep during an MRI if you can lie very still, but it can be hard because scanners are loud. Ear protection and headphones are provided. For some studies you must follow breathing or movement instructions, so sleeping isn’t allowed. If you’re anxious or need sedation, tell staff beforehand; alternatives like open MRI or mild sedatives can be arranged.

However, MRI cannot reliably show microscopic or functional nerve-fiber damage; it may miss early or purely functional neuropathies.
