It’s more abundant and geochemically distinct from true rare-earth elements.

Is molybdenum good for the brain?plus

Molybdenum is an essential trace mineral that supports enzymes (e.g., sulfite oxidase) which prevent toxic metabolite buildup that can harm the nervous system. Severe deficiency—rare—can cause neurological symptoms. However, there’s no solid evidence that extra molybdenum improves brain function or cognition. Maintain recommended dietary intakes through a balanced diet; avoid high-dose supplements unless medically advised.

Is molybdenum toxic to humans?plus

Molybdenum is an essential trace element and is not usually toxic at dietary levels. Toxicity is rare, but chronic high intake or occupational exposure can raise blood uric acid, cause gout-like joint pain, gastrointestinal upset, and may disturb copper metabolism. A commonly cited tolerable upper intake for adults is about 2 mg/day; acute toxicity is uncommon but high supplement or inhalation exposure warrants medical evaluation.
