HRCT SCAN PNS CORONAL

CT PNS coronal is a CT scan of the paranasal sinuses reconstructed in the coronal plane, providing a frontal view of sinus cavities, nasal septum and the ostiomeatal complex. High-resolution, usually non-contrast images help detect sinusitis, polyps, mucosal thickening, fractures, tumors and anatomical variants for surgical planning. It’s a quick outpatient test that uses low-dose ionizing radiation.

A HRCT scan of the paranasal sinuses (High-Resolution CT) is a detailed, low-dose computed tomography that produces thin-slice images of the sinus cavities and adjacent bones. It evaluates sinus inflammation, blockages, anatomical variations, polyps, infection, or bone disease, guiding diagnosis and surgical planning. The scan is quick, noninvasive, and provides high-resolution cross-sectional views for precise assessment.

Axial (transverse) CT obtains horizontal slices perpendicular to the body’s long axis, producing cross-sectional images from head to feet that divide the body into top and bottom—commonly used for brain, chest, and abdomen. Coronal CT acquires frontal-plane images that divide the body into front and back, useful for assessing facial bones, sinuses, spine alignment and overall anatomical relationships in a frontal view.

A CT PNS (computed tomography of the paranasal sinuses) is a noninvasive X‑ray scan that produces detailed cross‑sectional images of the sinus cavities and surrounding bones. It helps diagnose sinusitis, polyps, anatomical variants, fractures, and chronic or recurrent infections, and aids surgical planning. The exam is quick and painless, usually performed without contrast, and uses a low radiation dose.

A paranasal sinus (PNS) CT scan is generally not painful. The scan is quick, noninvasive and involves lying still while X‑rays are taken. If contrast dye is used, you may feel a brief sting from the IV or a transient warm/metallic sensation; some people feel discomfort from staying still or claustrophobia. Technicians offer instructions and support throughout.

In CT imaging, "coronal" refers to slices made in the coronal plane, which divide the body into front (anterior) and back (posterior) portions. Coronal CT images are vertical, oriented from head to feet, providing frontal views of organs and structures. They complement axial and sagittal images, aiding assessment of sinuses, facial bones, chest, spine and certain abdominal or pelvic pathologies.
