ET SCAN

An ET scan (endometrial thickness scan) is a transvaginal ultrasound that visualizes the uterine lining. It measures endometrial thickness and pattern, checks for polyps, fibroids, cysts, or fluid, and assesses blood flow. Findings help evaluate fertility and timing for embryo transfer, investigate abnormal bleeding or menstrual issues, and guide treatment decisions such as medication, procedures, or further imaging.

An endometrial (ET) scan is usually done by ultrasound—commonly transvaginal or, less often, transabdominal. For transvaginal, you empty your bladder, lie on the couch, and a lubricated probe is gently inserted into the vagina to image the uterus; for transabdominal, a full bladder and abdominal probe are used. The sonographer measures endometrial thickness; the exam takes 5–15 minutes and may cause mild discomfort.

A CT (computed tomography) scan creates detailed cross-sectional images of bones, organs, blood vessels and soft tissues. It’s used to detect fractures, internal bleeding, tumors, infections and blood clots; evaluate stroke, lung and abdominal problems; stage cancer; and guide biopsies, drains or surgical planning. CTs are widely used in emergency care and for monitoring treatment response over time.

Yes. CT and CAT scan refer to the same imaging test: computed (axial) tomography. Both use X-rays and computer processing to create cross‑sectional images of the body. “CAT” reflects an older name (computed axial tomography); “CT” is the more common modern term. Scans can be done with or without contrast to evaluate bones, organs, blood vessels, and diagnose injuries or disease.

Yes. You can and are usually encouraged to drink plain water before a PET scan. Hydration helps tracer distribution and image quality. Avoid food, sugary or caloric drinks, and alcohol during the fasting period (commonly 4–6 hours) and skip caffeine if instructed. Follow any facility-specific instructions about timing, medications, and voiding the bladder; contact the imaging center if unsure.
