DOPPLER TVS

A TVS Doppler is a transvaginal ultrasound that combines internal (vaginal) imaging with Doppler blood‑flow assessment. A small probe placed in the vagina produces detailed images of the uterus, ovaries and adnexa and measures blood flow in pelvic vessels and lesions. It helps diagnose ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy, pelvic pain, infertility issues and uterine blood‑flow abnormalities. The test is generally safe but may cause mild discomfort.

A Doppler test (Doppler ultrasound) assesses blood flow and direction in arteries and veins. It detects narrowed or blocked vessels, blood clots, venous insufficiency, peripheral artery and carotid disease, checks blood flow to organs, limbs and the fetus in pregnancy, and monitors grafts or stents. It's a non‑invasive tool used to diagnose circulation problems and guide treatment decisions.

Neither is universally better; choice depends on indication. Transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) gives higher-resolution images of pelvic organs and early pregnancy, making it preferable for adnexal pathology, endometrial assessment, and first-trimester evaluation. Transabdominal ultrasound (USG) provides a wider field, useful for large pelvic masses and later pregnancy or when TVS isn’t acceptable. Clinician judgment and patient factors guide selection.

A transvaginal (TVS) pelvic scan is usually not painful but may cause mild discomfort or pressure and brief cramping similar to period pain. The probe is thin and lubricated; the exam is short. People with pelvic infection, endometriosis, or tight pelvic muscles may feel more pain. Tell the sonographer if it’s painful — they can pause, adjust technique, or offer alternatives.

Doctors recommend a transvaginal scan (TVS) because it gives clearer, closer images of the uterus, ovaries and early pregnancy than an abdominal scan. TVS helps confirm pregnancy location and viability, detect ectopic pregnancy, ovarian cysts, fibroids or pelvic infection, investigate abnormal bleeding or pelvic pain, and assist fertility assessments or guided procedures. It’s quick, low-risk, and often more diagnostic for pelvic problems.

A positive Doppler ultrasound indicates abnormal blood flow — for veins it commonly signals a deep vein thrombosis (DVT); for arteries it shows stenosis or occlusion; in pregnancy it may show impaired placental or fetal blood flow. Management includes urgent clinical assessment, confirmatory imaging, anticoagulation or vascular/surgical interventions, increased fetal surveillance if pregnant, and prompt specialist follow‑up.
