A venous Doppler test for both legs is a noninvasive ultrasound that evaluates blood flow through leg veins. A venous Doppler ultrasound is non-invasive and usually painless. A positive Doppler ultrasound indicates abnormal or absent blood flow in the tested vessel—commonly suggesting a blood clot, narrowing, or poor perfusion. It typically leads to confirmatory imaging, specialist referral and prompt treatment tailored to the cause: anticoagulants for DVT, thrombolysis or surgical/endovascular repair for severe blockages, plus monitoring and supportive measures to prevent complications.

First-line treatment for chronic venous insufficiency is conservative care—graduated compression stockings, leg elevation, regular walking/exercise, weight loss and avoiding prolonged standing. For symptomatic varicose veins or refractory disease, minimally invasive procedures (endovenous thermal ablation or ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy) are preferred over open surgery.
